Customer story: SORGER Creative
SORGER creative was established by Susan Sorger to deliver quality Architectural Illustrations to a diverse,
international clientele. We are equally at home meeting the illustration needs of Architects, interior designers,
property developers and trade show designers.
In March 2003 we chose to add Piranesi to our repertoire of tools and techniques. The project pictured
here was only our second effort using Piranesi and we were very pleased with the results.
Piranesi was used to soften and re-define the shadows imported from our modeling software. By employing the
various fades available in Piranesi to imply depth, the main colors or textures were applied. The stucco grain was
applied only after all other "painting" was complete. A glass surface over the openings in the windows and doors
was created as a "construct" in Piranesi using a low percentage blend of an aqua color. The windshield on the car,
a solid surface from our model, was "painted" in Piranesi using one of the provided metal textures set to a very large
scale. The hook point and angle were adjusted to achieve a credible glass effect.
The "cutouts" of people and landscape were prepared in Photoshop. Piranesi added all the applicable shadows
and reflections. Piranesi's "cutout" editing tools were used as well to merge a "cutout" of a hand holding a cell
phone over the hand of a cigarette-smoking young woman.
In order to capture shadows and reflections outside of the visible "scene" the original image extent was created
twice as wide as seen here and somewhat longer at the bottom. Once the cutouts were placed and the shadows
and reflections were captured, the extent was cropped to arrive at the desired composition. Using the various
Piranesi brushes, the reflections were enhanced to indicate even more distant objects.
With each new project we tap into more of Piranesi's capabilities resulting in ever more "painterly" effects
