Customer story: Smiros and Smiros Architects
Laura Smiros and Jim Smiros, husband and wife, founded Smiros & Smiros Architects, LLP in New York in 1993. Our projects can be found in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida and internationally in London and Moscow.S&S concentrates on building forms that are conceived within a traditional framework. Our architects draw extensively on recognizable building types, local building traditions and regional characteristics.
Starting in 1999 under my direction, S&S began incorporating 3D animation and rendering into the design process to help sell the project to the client and to foster understanding of the 2D drawings. We introduced Piranesi 3 in mid 2002 in an effort to soften our rendering style. Almost immediately we were able to produce images that were visually rich, not flat and technical looking. The excellent built in library of predefined painting styles and entourage quickly lent itself as a starting point for experimentation that allowed us to develop a rendering style that pleased our clients.
The images on display here show the two predominant techniques we use, the brownpaper color restore and the sepia etch. We have so far found these to be the clearest and artistic methods. The Sepia Etching is a Multifill style straight out of the box.
The brownpaper color restore was a combination of the Textured Paper painting technique, and the Wobble Image and Restore Colour styles.
