Using and reusing rendering styles
Piranesi comes with a library of rendering styles for reuse later, that you can add your own styles to. So after developing a particular rendering style, it has become simple to create several design options in a short period of time. We can now explore each design scheme quickly with finished results.

The main styles we use are not extravagant and are based around the tutorials that come with the program. The innovation from Piranesi 3 that has appealed to us most is the ability to define several raster brushes using the paintbrush tool. The new multiple raster painter brush is great; we had problems making the images look 'loose' in the older version. You could almost see the pattern of the same brush used, even when you used the 'splatter' option. This new tool is as good as it gets when creating that loose feeling.

We have also developed a few tricks of our own such as the light to dark gradient fill used on the flat road surface as shown below. I also like to use a pen/stylus to apply some free-hand lines over the image to loosen it up even more.

On a recent project, I was able to generate about 3 different options for 4 separate elevations (a total of 12 images) in a week for a client's review. It's becoming easier and easier to generate these images as we progress with the program.

Our most recent community center, the Laguna Hills Community Center (shown below), was a 43,000 sq. ft. facility that was integrated into a sports park with softball fields, a prehistorically themed playground, inline skating rink, and skateboard park. The community center houses a large gymnasium, assembly room, art center, classrooms, and library/technology center. Various fossils found throughout the site are displayed in the entry of the building and are the reason for the themes in the playground.
