Informatix Launches Reseller Recruitment Drive
Press Release: Cambridge, UK February 9th 2009.

CAD developer Informatix Software International has launched a global Reseller recruitment programme for its MicroGDS CAD solution.

“We have always offered our award-winning rendering application, Piranesi, through the reseller channel, both in the UK and overseas,” said Steve Evans, Informatix’s Managing Director, “and now we wish to extend an opportunity to suitably qualified resellers to help us to grow the MicroGDS user community”.

Suitable reseller applicants will have extensive experience of selling and supporting 2D and 3D CAD solutions in the architectural, construction, interior design and civil engineering markets. We will be implementing a tiered dealer partnership, together with full marketing support.

“MicroGDS has always been our flagship product, and now is the time to really bring its extensive capabilities to a wider audience”, said Evans. “We are looking forward to building a team of resellers who will share in our success as we see MicroGDS grow its market share. Technically, it can match or exceed the capabilities of its competitors, and with the right partners behind it, we know it can become a market leader.”

About MicroGDS
The MicroGDS product family is designed to meet the 2D and 3D CAD needs of architects, engineers, facility planners, and interior designers no matter how big or how small the organisation and projects. Designed originally by GDS Solutions, then a division of EDS, MicroGDS was launched in 1997 as the first professional-level PC CAD product to be developed specifically for the Microsoft Windows market.

2D drawings produced by MicroGDS have a clarity and professional look unmatched by any other product. In 3D, fully photo-realistic rendering is available, plus direct interfaces to the highly acclaimed Piranesi product from Informatix which allows users to produce stunning images in an unbelievably short space of time. MicroGDS is engineered to work reliably with models and drawings of unlimited complexity.

On larger projects, the advanced multi-user capabilities allows many team members to work on the same drawing at the same time without conflict, even if they work from different sites. Examples of projects which have benefited from the GDS family of CAD solutions include the Channel Tunnel and Heathrow Terminal 4. For more examples, visit the gallery on the web site – www.informatix.co.uk.

Informatix Software International acquired for Britain
Press Release: Cambridge, UK February 6th 2009.

On January 28th, Selective Software Holdings (SSH), a British-owned company with interests in software marketing, purchased the UK business of Informatix Software International Ltd (ISI) (www.informatix.co.uk) from Informatix Incorporated, the Japanese parent company.

ISI was established in 1997 to develop and market the CAD and rendering applications, MicroGDS and Piranesi, acquired from the original developers, Convergent Group, a US consultancy business.

The company, which will retain the Informatix Software International name, will now be owned and managed entirely within the UK. ISI owns the rights to market its products world-wide, with the exception of Japan, where such rights will be retained by Informatix Inc.

The on-going support and future development of MicroGDS and Piranesi, together with any future new products, will continue to be undertaken by the existing technical team at the Cambridge, UK development centre. New versions of MicroGDS and Piranesi are due for release later this year.

The new management team is fully committed to continued investment in both products and over the coming weeks will make public road maps for the future development of each of the products. The staff and management of ISI will continue to offer excellent service and support to its end-user customers and resellers worldwide and will ensure that the products are maintained to the highest level.

The MicroGDS product family is designed to meet the 2D and 3D CAD needs of architects, engineers, facility planners, and interior designers no matter how big or how small an organisation or project.

MicroGDS is an easy to learn product, packed with features which will ensure that users can create and edit their work more quickly and reliably than with other CAD products. On larger projects, the advanced multi-user capabilities allow many team members to work on the same drawing at the same time without conflict, even if they work from different sites.

Piranesi excels at turning conceptual 3D models into wonderfully atmospheric, stylised and, most importantly, persuasive visualisations, with a whole host of effects to allow the user to focus the eye and the attention to the key elements of the design.

Piranesi is also adept at delivering both photorealistic and non-photorealistic renders of fully-detailed images either for marketing use, planning applications or even award submissions.

The key differentiator with Piranesi is its understanding of “depth”. Unlike other rendering applications, when a “cutout” (eg a person, tree, vehicle etc) is placed into a render, Piranesi scales the cutout depending on where it is placed, ie larger towards the foreground, smaller in the background, as well as placing it behind or in front of existing objects without the need for masks, resulting in increased productivity.

ISI’s products are available through a network of distributors and resellers worldwide, and direct from the company’s Cambridge office.

MicroGDS and HLM Architects in Building Design Magazine
Building Design talks to Paul Tunstall, cad manager at HLM Architects, about why he continues to stick with MicroGDS.

"MicroGDS is by no means a minor-league cad program. The power of this software to support many thousands of files within one project, enabling several people to work on the same drawing simultaneously, is not matched by other products."

Piranesi 5 is coming!
Informatix Software International Limited is proud to announce that version 5 of Piranesi® - its award-winning "3D painting" technology - will soon be released on Windows®.

Much of the power of Piranesi comes from its ability to combine different tools and effects together, but sometimes the number of possibilities can be bewildering! Piranesi 5 addresses this by promoting a number of effects - such as Edge detection, Restore, and various kinds of Cutout placement - to Tools in their own right. These facilities are now easier to find, and if you're new to the system you can turn on the new Help Assistant which tells you step-by-step how to use your current Tool to get the result you want. The most common settings for each Tool are now right in front of you on the Tool Options toolbar, while the more advanced settings can be ignored or combined with other palettes as tabs on a single window to reduce screen space. Meanwhile the new Style Selector gives you easy access to saved style recipes for each Tool, fitting conveniently into the same Tool Options toolbar.

Piranesi 5 isn't just about user interface improvements - there's a raft of new capabilities. You can quickly populate whole scenes with people or plants using the Multiple Cutout placement Tool, and Cutouts can be grouped and moved together, or modified with motion blur and silhouetting effects. There's a new Light tool for re-illuminating a scene with four types of light with adjustable strength and direction; a new Pencil tool for drawing lines and areas; and a Stamp tool for burning in raster images. You can export to Photoshop PSD files, or import SketchUp or 3DS Cutouts complete with textures.

As well as the enhancements to Piranesi itself, its sister Vedute program - for rendering models into Piranesi format - has new features for handling materials, textures and paper sizes, and generating 3D cutouts. Last but not least, there are 200 new royalty-free cutout images of people, plants, and street furniture.
